I set the Canon up on the tripod and posed three separate photos, one with me sitting holding a fake head to represent my own, the second, holding the book at roughly the angle and position I wanted and third, sitting opposite the wall to get a good angle for my own head. I cut out my head and the book and composited everything together in Photoshop.
