CarShare Background
A growing number of Irish people are engaging in smarter travel. CarShare is a service which empowers people to make affordable and sustainable transportation choices by providing an efficient service as well as making a difference, one carbon footprint at a time.
We are working with communities in urban and rural areas around Ireland to facilitate travel choices and more sustainable transport in order to reduce costs on fuel, toll and parking as well as to reduce the number of cars on the road resulting in decreases in congestion and therefore lowering CO2 and other emissions.
How CarShare Works?
Register with your workplace, private car sharing group or as an individual and seek or offer lifts for work or other events. You can also set up your own private or work car sharing group. After registration and once you have signed into your account you can see that all members have added in their locations and their destinations, which are represented on a map of Ireland with location markers.
As well as adding in your own trip you might want to contact another member if they have trips that suit your particular needs. You can do this directly through the website with no need to swap personal contact details.
Step By Step Process
STEP 1: Add Your Journey
Once you've signed up and activated your FREE account, you can add your location by clicking on the "Add Location" button on your account home page. You will then see a small form which needs to be filled out so other members can seek or offer a lift from near your location.
Details to submit include; City/Town, One off/Regular Trip, Departure Time, Return Time and Destination details. On submission, you will receive confirmation that your details have been added and your location will be added to the map of Ireland along with other member's so that you can be contacted.
STEP 2: Join a Group
You can join a Private, Public or Work trip group by selecting a location marker nearest you on the map of Ireland. You will then see a popup window which will show that location's details including a list of groups and members there. Viewing these details will help you determine at a glance if there are suitable matches for you at that location. If so then you can *contact group owners or members by clicking their details and "Send Request". This allows you to type in a message to the group owner or member to arrange your trip.
* All initial communication happens through CarShare and no private contact details are shared.
STEP 3: Arrange a Pickup
Once you have initiated contact with a member or group owner by clicking on the "Send Request" button on a members profile, that member or group owner will receive an email from CarShare with options to Approve or Deny your request to join their trip or group. Once they have approved you can agree to swap contact details so that you can arrange your trip. Of course, you may also receive trip requests from other members which you can also Approve or Deny.
At any stage you can leave a group or trip or edit your detail on the site as well as deleting your profile if required.
